one image quickly

iPhoto™
A great way to manage your library, but what about "backing-up, sharing your art and editing images.

You can back-up your pictures folder which contains your iPhoto library. But it is better to Export albums as singular jpeg images, in folders. The advantage is you can open and preview jpeg images in many software applications including the Microsoft™ computing environment.

Instructions to Export one image quickly
From your main library, as it is. Perhaps to be edited in Adobe Photoshop™

1 / Start iPhoto™ By clicking its icon in the dock.

2 / Select "Library" Top Left of the pane,. This will display your complete library in the Right hand side of the pane.

3 / Minimise the iPhoto™ pane By clicking its bottom Right hand corner. (in the diagonal lines) Hold your mouse button down and slide the pane a little smaller towards the top Left of the pane. So you can see some DeskTop area to the bottom right.

4 / Scroll your Library to choose an image By sliding the scroll bar on the Right hand side of the pane. or by using the arrow keys on your keyboard.

5 / Click once on your chosen image Then hold down the mouse button, and slide the image from its location in the pane to the clear area on your DeskTop.

6 / Quit iPhoto From the file menu. Your image will be on the DeskTop ready for editing.

export an album for sharing or back-up

Albums keep your iPhoto™ library organised. You can use albums to select collections of images and perform the same task on multiple items. For instance you can select an album of photographs, and then export and resize all of them smaller, to send as an email.

1 / Start iPhoto™ By clicking its icon in the dock.

2 / Select an "Album" Top Left of the pane,. This will display one of your complete albums in the Right hand side of the pane, with what ever title you gave it.

3 / Export the album Go to the ShareMenu Select the "Export" option at the bottom of the list. Then a new pane will appear on the DeskTop.

4 / Consider the Options in the New Pane As you can see you export web pages and Quicktime movie slideshows, but for now we are going to re-size all the images in an album.

5 / Choose File Export By clicking it at the top of the pane. Then click the radio button next to, Scale images no larger than: Then enter 200 x 150 pixels. Then click "Export" A new navigation pane will appear on the destop, promting you to save the images.

6 / Navigate to the location that you want to save the files, (Desktop) Then click NewFolder Give the folder a title. Then click Create. In the new pane click OK Then the files will export to that folder and you are finish.
